CAD/CAM cobalt-chromium alloy single crowns in posterior regions: 4-year prospective clinical study
Journal of Osseointegration 2017 Oct; 9(3) 282-288

Due to the increasing diffusion of cobalt-chromium in dentistry, a group of researchers of University of Naples analyzed through a 4 years prospective clinical study the survival rate and complications of single crowns in cobalt-chromium designed by means of the Echo CAD CAM system and milled from Co-Cr blanks at the Echo Milling Center at Sweden & Martina facilities. The 120 crowns, placed in posterior regions both in maxilla and mandible of 89 patients, were veneered through a conventional powder build-up using a feldspathic ceramic specifically dedicated to Co-Cr structures. During the 4 years observational period none of the CAD CAM single crowns was lost at follow-up nor mechanical failures or retention loss were recorded. Only one crown showed a minor chipping of the veneering porcelain due to an impact during mastication, not compromising nor crown survival nor functionality.
The final survival rate was 100%, confirming the reliability of this prosthetic approach, in line with previous literature.
